Placebo - Running Up That Hill
You don’t want to hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware that I’m tearing you asunder.
There is thunder in our hearts, baby.
So much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don’t we?

Devendra Banhart - Lover
This is probably going to make me look incredibly pretentious, but I was thinking that Bruce Springsteen is kind of to music what Arthur Miller was to playwriting. They both highlight the struggle of the common man, and the every day goings-on that always seem to be overlooked. I think particularly, though, the way Bruce tells stories with his songs, it’s that whole idea of an idea being universally applicable, even though that particularly circumstance is just the one individual. There’re also the references to the American Dream in Miller’s plays, those are rife too in Bruce’s songs; although it links back again to the notion of a universal dream. Just ordinary people, trying to do better for themselves, trying to overcome problems, just dealing with life.
Buckets of Rain - Bob Dylan
I like your smile, and your fingertips
I like the way that you move your hips
I like the cool way you look at me
Everything about you is bringing me misery
So relevant just now. It’s so beautiful in that melancholy way. I love how Bob Dylan can have songs like this, but also songs like Hurricane that are just filled with the other side of passion.
I Blame Coco - Self Machine
I’m not a human if you say I’m not.
I am watching your chest rise and fall
Like the tides of my life and the rest of it all
And your bones have been my bedframe
And your flesh has been my pillow
I am waiting for sleep
To offer up the deep
With both hands
